Wachau

Wachau (ca. 1500 hectare)

Largely terraced vineyards with the most difficult handling. Weathered primary rock soils, partially loess andsandy soils.

The Area Protection Association "Vinea Wachau Nobiles Districtus" which includes the majority of wine producers of that region, ensures best quality as it imposed the strictest wine law of the world!

Vinea Wachau wines are classified in three categories: Steinfeder (slight and tangy), Federspiel (elegant, medium weighty) and Smaragd (deep, top-class).

Preferred white wines: Grüner Veltliner, Rheinriesling, Riesling Sylvaner, Chardonnay, Neuburger, Pinot Blanc as well as excellent Gelbe Muskateller
Preferred red wines: Zweigelt, St.Laurent, Blauer Portugieser and Cabernet Sauvignon

Kremstal

Kremstal (2245 hectare)

Viticulture with partial terrace cultivation, loam and loess soils, partially bedrock, on the plain sand and brash soils, around the charming town of Krems.

Preferred white wines: Gruener Veltliner, Rheinriesling, Riesling Sylvaner, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Neuburger,Welschriesling, Yellow Muscatel, Red Veltliner
Preferred red wines: Zweigelt, Pinot Noir, Blue Portuguese, Cabernet Sauvignon

Neusiedler - See (Lake Neusiedl)

Neusiedler See (7678 hectare)

From the heath of Parndorf, Neusiedl, Gols, Frauenkirchen, Podersdorf, Ilmitz to Apetlon.

Black earth soils, gravel plates, also passages from calcareous to chalk free soils, sandy soils, salt (white alkali soil) and loess soils.

Preferred white wines: Grüner Veltliner, Pinot Blanc, Welschriesling, Bouvier, Muskat Ottonel, Traminer, Riesling Sylvaner, Neuburger
Preferred red wines: Zweigelt, St. Laurent, Cabernet Sauvignon, Blaufränkisch, Pinot Noir

Neusiedlersee - Hügelland

Neusiedlersee-Hügelland (3576 hectare)

Location: area around Rust, Eisenstadt and Mattersburg, west of Lake Neusiedl.

Soil: loess, sand, black soil, partly stony
Climate: Pannonian

Preferred wine: Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Blaufränkisch

Thermenregion

Thermenregion (2198 hectare)

Located in the south of Vienna with an already Pannonian climate and large area of cultivable land for Neuburger. High in chalk, clayey soils interspersed with rocks, gravel soils.

Preferred white wines: Neuburger, Zierfandler, Rotgipfler, Pinot Blanc, Riesling Sylvaner, Muscatel, Gruener Veltliner
Preferred red wines: Zweigelt, Blue Portuguese, St. Laurent, Pinot Noir, Blaufränkisch, Cabernet Sauvignon
